Healthier Homemade Pumpkin Spice (Latte) Sauce & Coffee Creamer [Paleo]

Sharing is caring!

Just to be clear, I do not support pumpkin spice season until the end of September. I think serving pumpkin spice in August should be illegal, Starbucks- I’m looking at you! However, it seems that everyone else feels differently, so I am posting this in early September to appease the masses. You’re welcome basic b’s!

Why Homemade Pumpkin Spice is Better

Most people have no idea what actually goes into their pumpkin spice latte, they probably don’t want to know. Torani (a brand that a lot of coffee stands and cafés use) has a Pumpkin Pie sauce that has corn syrup, natural flavor, caramel color, soy lecithin, potassium sorbate, gums and refined sugar. Yuck! Just two tablespoons of this sauce has 21 grams of sugar, that doesn’t even account for the milk. Starbucks PSL (which does contain real pumpkin now) isn’t any better with loads of sugar, natural flavors and preservatives. For a 16oz (grande) pumpkin spice latte with whipped cream at Starbucks, you are looking at 50 grams of sugar, you read that right, 50 grams!!

This homemade paleo pumpkin spice recipe uses real ingredients you can feel good about putting in your body. If you are looking for a Seattle area coffee stand with a healthier pumpkin spice option, check out The Green Beanery in Kirkland, Wa. They make their own regular and vegan pumpkin spice with real ingredients, plus it’s all organic!

Clean Coffee

I have been searching for the best organic and clean coffee and I am working on a post about my favorites. Until then, I highly recommend Kion coffee. Kion coffee is organic, sustainably grown, fair-trade and tested by an accredited global organization to make sure the coffee is free of pesticides, yeast, mold and mycotoxins. Check out this blog post from Kion about why you should drink organic coffee. Coming from someone who is extremely sensitive to mold, I highly recommend you make sure your coffee is tested for mold and mycotoxins. I have found several brands that do this testing, but some of them are really expensive, Kion is much more affordable than most of the brands I have found. Use promo code JENNCGC15 for 15% off your order on Kion’s website.
